2017 marks the start of my 365 NO BUY CHALLENGE, I’m challenging myself to not buy clothes for a whole year! Yup, that’s right me, Casey Lum, the one that has been in the fashion industry for the last 12+ years, the one that has been obsessed with clothes since a young age, and yes, me that had my own boutique for 3 years. I have decided to do this because I looked in my closet and said, “I have too many clothes…and I keep buying more!” Even though I got rid of half of my closet in my recent move, I still have more than enough clothes in my closet!
So I decided…. I’m putting myself on timeout, I’m giving myself a challenge, no buying any clothes for the whole year of 2017 (#365nobuy). I really want to do this to appreciate what I already have and feel the need to want more. I read a quote that said, “Happiness isn’t about getting what you want all the time. It’s about loving what you have and being grateful for it.” Although that can be applied to everything in life, I am applying it to my closet. This is my challenge to test my fashion abilities, my style abilities, and to really make magic out of my closet. After all, this is how I became a stylist… back in college, I couldn’t afford new clothes all the time so I had to get creative with what I did have, reinvent new outfits out of the same clothes, and to be honest that is when I realized I had a knack for fashion styling. So that is what I’ll do, I’m not going to buy clothes for 365 days, get in the habit of more use, less buy, but I’m still going to look fashionable and on top-of-trend while doing it. My only exception is that if I want it, I have to sew it myself, I have to work for it. I’m sure this will not be easy but let’s just see what I can come up with. Join me on this crazy journey, and let’s see how I do! nAnybody want to do it with me? #365nobuy
