Imagine a place of pure serenity, absolute beauty. A place where every women feels no expectations, a place where she can just be herself and be ok with that. A place that upon entering the ivy gates you are blessed with sage by a man in a gold loin cloth and mask. A place so breathtakingly beautiful you feel like you are in a dream. A place where the food is pure, healthy and delicious, where the drinks flow like water, and the only men in this world are here to serve you… not to speak, not to cat-call, not to make you feel like you should be anything more than what you are, where they make you feel respected. A place where the competition from women to women is obsolete and instead, there is vibe of togetherness, an uplifting vibe of positivity. A place where we are all queens, we all get a crown…
A fake place you say? I say not even.
Last Saturday our team, Re/creation (www.recreationcafe.org), came together to host our second GODDESS CELEBRATION with the goal in mind to create all that’s described above and more. This is my very favorite event that we do because it moves lives. It is incredible.
For each guest attending the day starts with a lot of unknowns, an address to a parking lot, and a list of “what to bring”. When each guest arrives they are shuttled to a secret location where they enter through the ivy gates into our world of the Goddess Celebration. They are greeted with a man in a gold loin cloth and mask blessing them with sage at a location in Malibu, CA overlooking the ocean that is too unreal for words. You just have to see for yourself:

The day starts with yoga, meditation, and a beautiful uplifting, powerful talk by the amazing Debra Hockemeyer about empowering each other and coming together as strong women. As the talk comes to an end, the women are allowed to roam as they please as the Goddesses that they are. There is a fresh fruit mound surrounded by snacks that the Goddesses have free range to, a delicious chef-made raw vegan meal by our very own Lizzie Pereira, there is a open bar full of delicious drinks, a pool to swim and layout by, a grass area for any continued yoga or acro-yoga to take place, vendors to buy little goodies, a meditation and tea healing area by our dear friends Soulscape, massages by our very own Gods, and my favorite…a flower crown making station. The men, the Gods, are not allowed to speak, just there to serve. You ask and you shall receive… you want a drink? You got it! You want a massage? They are on it! You want them to tribal paint on you? Already done before you could ask! This day is magic.

The day closes with live music and the closing ceremony which included the whisper circle…this is a time when all the goddesses get to appreciate the Gods. The Gods join hands in a circle facing outwards and eyes closed, and the goddesses take turns whispering words of appreciation to them. In talking to the Gods after, they had no idea how impactful they were that day until this moment. They told me so many women whispered things like “thank you for appreciating me, You have given me back confidence in myself” or “I have never been treated like this, today was really special” or “today has changed my life, thank you”…the Gods mentioned that just the whisper circle alone was enough to pay them for the day (all Gods were volunteers). It’s amazing what a day can do. Thank you Gods!

And what a crazy and beautiful team we have… these are just a few of us from the Re/creation team. We come together, we create, we live.
